Today, we had the "hard work" of tasting the food options for the wedding. The husband-and-wife catering and events company, Sol & Rudy Catering (also on Facebook), came to our apartment to present a sampling of the options for the wedding and baptism celebration. And let me preface it by saying: YUM!
Of course, Shaw took photos:
A kitchen filled with food for preparation and tasting! Looks like it's going to be healthy!
The ratatouille comes out of the oven.
Shaw talks with Chef Rudy, who got his Chef training in Miami, Florida. Shaw doesn't have too many opportunities to talk with other gringos, and so he took the opportunity. Of course, that meant that the cooking was somewhat delayed, making everyone else a little more hungry.
Rafaela pours some pisco sours to help make the heavy work a little easier to do.
Appetizers/Entradas
Some finger-food: (clockwise from top-left) plum-and-bacon crostini, sun-dried tomato with goat-cheese crostini, pineapple-and-cherry wrap, tomato-and-goat cheese skewer, prosciutto and cream cheese skewers.
More finger-food: Smoked salmon in endive.
More finger-food: Machas la parmesana crostini (far better than on the half-shell, since you're no left holding onto a half-shell at the end of eating).
Shaw eating curried empanada. In the foreground there is a bowl of green-bean and bacon salad. Both really friggin' tasty!
Fresh, spring salad of arugula, strawberries, and mushrooms with a special dressing.
Abuelita Edith and Maya wait for the main dishes...
Main dishes/Platos principales
Rafaela trying turkey with gravy, mashed zapallo with merken, and ratatouille. Woah... Triptophan dreams... (Yes, I know it's not really so.)
Beef! Since Rafaela doesn't eat red meat, Shaw had to make the sacrifice and do the taste testing. (Shaw likes his beef cooked so that it's not too bloody.)
Mushroom and vegetable risotto. Cooked to perfection.
Shaw and Maya wait for dessert.
Dessert/Postre
Italian-style panna cotta.
New York style cheesecake. (Nota a los chilenos: lo que puede comprar en los cafes se llaman "cheesecake" es un peor imitacion de este.)
Apple pie. It's not a covered pie like Shaw's mother makes, but it's pretty tasty! (Chef Rudy adds just a touch of black pepper to complement the tartness of the apples.)
Rafaela enjoys a sublime tiramisu... just like what she had in Italy.
Uh oh... Shaw still looks hungry!
Verdict
The food was really, really tasty. You can all look forward to trying some yourselves on November 29th! We're going with Sol & Rudy!
